Our sunflowers started blooming about a month ago and I enjoy seeing them so much! We have a pasture across the creek at HQ that we call the cabin pasture and every summer it is loaded with sunflowers.
They are full of butterflies of all colors, bees of various varieties, and bird’s singing. We here at DCR are especially pleased to have an abundance of monarch butterflies as we have worked hard to establish healthy habitat for them by not using pesticides and promoting diversity within our ecosystem.
As you may know, the monarch is dangerously close to extinction. Hopefully as more and more people become aware of their situation, we can find ways to create more habitat for them.
In addition, Date Creek is home to lots and lots of bees of all types. And we all know how critical bees are for pollinating 1/3 of our food, medicinal products and of course…honey.
How can you help promote healthy ecosystems?
By buying as much food as you can from regenerative farmers and ranchers. More and more farmers are changing their farming practices to build healthy soil which is the foundation for a healthy ecosystem.
Love and blessings,
Kimberley
